Google Business Profile Not Showing? 9 Abbotsford Fixes

Why your Google Business Profile isn't showing in Abbotsford searches or the Map Pack, and exactly how to fix each of the nine common causes.

You search your own service — “plumber Abbotsford,” “physio near me” — and your business is nowhere. Not in the map results, sometimes not even when you search your own business name. Meanwhile competitors with worse reviews sit in the top three.

There are a small number of causes, they’re diagnosable in order, and most are fixable without paying anyone. Work through this list top to bottom.

First, know which problem you have

Not showing for your own business name is a different, more serious problem than not showing for service searches. If searching “your business name + Abbotsford” doesn’t surface your profile, you’re likely suspended or unverified — start at fix 1. If you show for your name but not for “your service + Abbotsford,” you have a ranking problem — start at fix 4.

1. Check whether the profile is suspended or unverified

Log into business.google.com. A red banner means suspended; “verification pending” means Google never finished confirming you exist. Suspensions commonly follow address edits, category changes, or adding keywords into the business-name field (see fix 3). Appeal through the profile dashboard, with documents matching your business name and address exactly — a business licence, utility bill, or CRA document.

2. Confirm your address and service-area settings match how you operate

Google treats storefront businesses and service-area businesses differently. If customers don’t visit your address (most trades), your address should be hidden and your service areas set — Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Langley. A home address shown publicly on a “storefront” profile is a common suspension trigger, and a wrong setup drags rankings even when live.

3. Take the keywords out of your business name

“Fraser Valley Plumbing — Best Plumber Abbotsford 24/7” feels clever and is against Google’s rules. Name-field stuffing earns suspensions, and competitors can and do report it. The name on your profile must match the name on your signage and legal documents. The keywords belong in your categories, services and description instead.

4. Fix your primary category

Your primary category is the single strongest ranking input on the profile. “Contractor” when you should be “Plumber” — or “Marketing agency” when you should be “Website designer” — is the difference between ranking and invisibility. Pick the most specific category that matches your money service, then add secondary categories for the rest. Check what the top three in your market use: search your service, look at their profiles, and match specificity.

5. Understand the proximity filter (why you rank at home but not across town)

Map Pack results depend heavily on where the searcher stands. You’ll often rank top-three near your own address and drop off two kilometres away. You can’t buy your way past proximity, but you can widen your radius with everything else on this list — categories, reviews, on-site service pages for each area, and real photo activity. Track it honestly: search from different locations (or have friends across Abbotsford check) rather than judging from your own driveway.

6. Get review velocity, not just review count

Fifteen reviews from 2023 lose to eight reviews from the last two months. Google rewards steady, recent reviews — and replies to them. The fix is a system, not a favour: ask every completed job, the same day, with a direct link. This is exactly the kind of repetitive work that should be automated — our review automation sends the request after each job and drafts the replies — but even a saved text template beats intending to ask and forgetting.

7. Give the profile a website that backs it up

Google cross-references your profile against your site. A profile claiming “drain cleaning, water heaters, emergency plumbing” pointing at a one-page site that mentions none of them ranks worse than one backed by a page for every service. Match the profile’s services and areas to real pages, keep name-address-phone identical everywhere, and link the profile to the most relevant page — not always the homepage.

8. Post photos and updates like the business is alive

Profiles with recent photos and occasional posts outrank dormant ones. Monthly is enough: job-site photos, before/afters, a short update. Real photos from your phone beat stock images — Google detects stock, and so do customers.

9. Check for duplicate profiles

Old addresses, a previous owner’s listing, or an accidentally created second profile split your reviews and confuse Google. Search Google Maps for your business name and past addresses; request removal or merging of duplicates through the profile dashboard.

How long until it shows?

Suspension recoveries: days to weeks after a successful appeal. Category and name fixes: often visible within 2–4 weeks. Review velocity and content: compounds over 60–90 days. Local SEO is a position you defend monthly, not a switch you flip once.
